The above infographic demonstrates the importance of including the stories and experiences of food manufacturing workers when striving to create a more equitable food system. It also highlights both opportunities for and obstacles to food justice. Food manufacturing and processing represents an opportunity for employment and the potential to earn a living wage. Many workers in the state are already unionized which provides a vehicle for improving working conditions in these facilities. However, there are significant disparities among those who work in this sector. Education, race, and gender all impact a worker’s experience. All women, men and women of color, and those with less education have lower incomes than other groups of people who work in the sector.
